Prof. Peled is a full professor at the School of Social Work and a critical researcher in the field of gender in social work. Her research and writing focus on understanding how gendered concepts shape the experiences and identities of men and women in situations of violence and social marginalization—especially domestic violence, marginalized mothers, and sex trade. Another key aspect of her research is the development and evaluation of an intervention in these areas, in collaboration with the professionals involved in them. She specializes in constructivist qualitative methodologies that enable a complex and in-depth examination of experiences and perceptions in personal, interpersonal and social contexts. In recent years, she has been a partner and leader of various initiatives to expand the academic discourse on sex trade and sex-for-pay. Her current research projects deal with the processes that lead men to pay for sex and their perceptions of the meaning of payment, understanding help seeking of teenagers and young adults who trade sex, understanding the perceptions of practitioners in the field of addictions in relation to sex trading experiences of their clients, and developing intervention for women who trade sex around pregnancy and childbirth. Prof. Peled is one of the founders of the Israeli Association for the Study of Prostitution, Sex Work and Sex Trafficking
